5 Ways to Find Clarity When Making Big Life Decisions
Jul 09, 2023Are You Ready for a Change? How to Gain Clarity and Create Your Best Life
Life is full of transitions, some of which can be incredibly challenging.
Whether it's changing jobs, moving to a new city, or ending a relationship, life transitions can leave us feeling lost, confused, and overwhelmed.
These are often some of our most vulnerable moments in life.
Moving from the known to the unknown.
It is scary.
It is exciting.
It is nerve wracking.
It is a whole swack of emotions.
It is also an opportunity for growth and transformation.
No matter what transition you are going through, please know you are not alone in the rollarcoaster of feelings you are experiencing.
Today, I wanted to give you five tips for finding clarity during life transitions and how creating a life vision can help make big decisions easier.
1. Reflect on your values and priorities
If you follow along you know I talk about this a lot…. That is because it is so important!
During times of transition, it's imperative to take a step back and reflect on what's truly important to you.
Going back to your core values, or reviewing them to ensure they are still aligned with you now, is KEY. ( IF you don't know your core values, not to worry, I have you covered - Grab your free personal core values workbook here!
When we're faced with big decisions, it can be easy to get caught up in the details and lose sight of the bigger picture. By reflecting on what truly matters to you, you can make decisions that are aligned with your values and priorities.
2. Create a life vision
The second thing I talk a lot about it creating a life vision. No matter what age or stage of life you are at - this is so important.
Science has proven time and time again that when having a vision for your life and using visualization tools to retrain your brain, it helps people achieve their goals, have more purpose and live more fulfilling lives.
Creating a life vision involves taking the time to envision the kind of life you want to create for yourself in the future. What kind of career do you want? What kind of relationships do you want to have? What kind of lifestyle do you want to live? By creating a clear and compelling vision for your future, you can use this as a guidepost to help you make decisions that move you closer to your ideal life.
3. Get support from others
Going through a major life transition can be isolating and overwhelming.
It is also a create opportunity for our subconscious thoughts, self-limiting beliefs and inner critic to pop up and tell us stuff that really is not helpful to our situation.
Therefore, having some outside perspective is needed.
It's important to seek out support from friends, family, or even a therapist or coach. You can also consider joining a support group or online community to connect with others who are going through similar experiences. Having someone to talk to can help you process your thoughts and feelings, gain new perspectives, and feel less alone. 4. Practice self-care + self awareness
I am a HUGE proponent for self-awareness. Investing in knowing ourselves better is one of the most valuable life investments you will ever make.
During a life transition, is the perfect time to slow down and start figuring out what you really want. What makes you really tick and how you can capitalize on your passions, talents and desires.
Step one in doing this is writing things down. Seriously. Journaling is powerful and scientifically proven to have many health benefits.
Also as part of being self aware, take the time for self-care. During times of transition, it's easy to neglect self-care. However, taking care of yourself is more important than ever during these moments. This might mean getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising regularly, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. When we take care of ourselves, we're better equipped to handle the challenges that come our way.
5. Embrace uncertainty
Life transitions can be scary because they often involve a lot of uncertainty.
However, it's important to remember that uncertainty is a natural part of life.
“change is the only constant in life” - Heraclitus
I have always kind of been annoyed by that quote…. Probably because it is right. And it makes me uncomfortable.
But it is true.
Instead of resisting it, try to embrace it.
This might mean being open to new opportunities, experimenting with different approaches, and being willing to take risks. This can help you gain clarity on what you enjoy and what you don't, and can open up new opportunities. Take a class, volunteer, or travel to a new place.
Remember, Life transitions can be challenging, but they can also be opportunities for growth and transformation.
By reflecting on your values, creating a life vision, seeking support, practicing self-care, and embracing uncertainty, you can find clarity and make decisions that move you closer to your ideal life.
And remember, the power of creating a life vision can be incredibly helpful when making big decisions, so take the time to envision the life you want and use it as a guidepost along the way.
